Liverpool, Man Utd, Chelsea: Which Premier League team is most popular in the USA?

For decades, Manchester United have been considered the most popular Premier League side on a worldwide basis.

However, a recent survey now suggests that this is no longer the case, at least in the United States of America.

A poll of stateside-based Premier League fans indicates that United’s popularity has fallen somewhat in the region off the back of their worst season ever in the English top-flight.

The team over at Morning Consult quizzed supporters as to whether they had a “favourable” or “slightly favourable” opinion of each of the 20 Premier League teams competing in 2022/23.

England’s most well-known teams inevitably ranked highly, but the final results still threw up their fair share of surprises.

We’ve taken a look at the numbers in full below.

20. Brighton – 28% hold a favourable view of the club

19. Bournemouth – 30%

18. Brentford – 31%

17. Wolves – 32%

16. Nottingham Forest – 32%

Ouch. Not a lot of love for Brighton across the pond. Newly-promoted Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest also rank pretty poorly – possibly due to US fans not being overly familiar with them.

15. Fulham – 34%

14. Everton – 36%

13. Aston Villa – 36%

12. Leeds United – 38%

11. Crystal Palace – 38%

Fulham might be owned by American-based businessman Shahid Khan, but it seems the Cottagers still have plenty of work to do to improve their perception in the country.

Leeds, managed by former Team USA midfielder Jesse Marsch, also have to settle for a fairly low overall placing.

10. Leicester City – 40%

9. West Ham – 41%

8. Southampton – 41%

7. Tottenham – 44%

6. Newcastle – 45%

Having made headlines around the world following their takeover last year, Newcastle now rank above Spurs in terms of stateside popularity.
