Liverpool make transfer decision on Sheffield United loanee Ben Davies

Sheffield United loanee Ben Davies will reportedly leave Liverpool permanently this summer after a mixed spell on loan at Bramall Lane. The 26-year-old arrived under Slaviša Jokanović last summer after spending one season at Anfield - signed by Jurgen Klopp amid a defensive crisis after a promising season at Preston North End.

Davies made a strong start to life in South Yorkshire, starting 14 times in 2021. But he missed a clash with Fulham in December due to personal problems and never fully displaced Jack Robinson upon his return, starting just seven more times this calendar year.

And, according to the Liverpool Echo , Davies will likely be moved on this summer as the Reds look to strengthen their squad further in the hunt for Premier League and Champions League glory.

“The 26-year-old has become something of a forgotten man having not got further than being named on the bench eight times last season.” Ian Doyle, the Echo’s Chief Liverpool Writer said.

“He was a regular in the Championship until injury before Christmas, and on his return found it difficult to dislodge former Liverpool youngster Jack Robinson. He will be available for transfer this summer, although money issues make a return to Bramall Lane unlikely.”

Davies is contracted long-term at Liverpool and would therefore require a significant fee plus wage demands to bring him to Bramall Lane - barriers that are hard to jump for the Blades, especially for someone who isn’t guaranteed to start or to improve the starting lineup.

Liverpool were keen to sell him on a permanent deal last summer but failed to find any suitors, instead opting for a loan. They are unlikely to be so lenient again this season and will almost certainly not budge on a permanent sale.
