Liverpool leave two first team players behind for latest pre-season trip
31 players are included on Liverpool’s pre-season trip to Germany and Austria, but Diogo Jota and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are not among them.
The Reds face RB Leipzig on Thursday evening before a week’s training camp in Austria and another friendly against RB Salzburg.
It will be crucial preparation for the Premier League season to come, but Jota and Oxlade-Chamberlain will miss out through injury.
The Portuguese forward suffered a recurrance of a hamstring injury which will keep him out of these friendlies and probably the start to competitive action.
It has not been made clear what injury Oxlade-Chamberlain is struggling with, but he was taken off in the first half of the friendly win over Crystal Palace last week and has clearly not recovered.
Competitive action begins for Jurgen Klopp’s side on 6 August at Fulham and both players are doubts for that contest at this stage.
There is better news on goalkeeper Alisson Becker, though, who is on the trip to central Europe despite missing the game against Palace in Singapore.
He might not play against Leipzig on Thursday, but his injury is not serious and will be back in action soon.
