Liverpool: Klopp 'will be looking' at Tchouameni alternative at Anfield

Liverpool will be looking out for potential midfield signings this summer, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The Reds were interested in signing Aurelien Tchouameni from Monaco, but they have now missed out on the talented youngster.

The 22-year-old, who can play as a holding midfielder or slightly higher up the pitch, was linked with a move to Liverpool after a fine 2021/22 season which saw him break into the French national team.

However, he has now joined Real Madrid instead, with The Athletic reporting that the Spanish giants have agreed a total package with Monaco worth over €100m (£85m).

The deal was announced by the La Liga giants on Saturday.

O’Rourke expects Liverpool to bounce back quickly from failing to sign Tchouameni as he feels Jurgen Klopp will be keen to bolster his squad in the middle of the park.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I’m sure Jurgen Klopp and his recruitment team will be looking at possible midfield alternatives to see who they can possibly bring in to strengthen the squad, because I’m sure Nunez up front and possibly someone for midfield are probably the two key positions Liverpool need to fill this summer.”

Liverpool started the Champions League final with a midfield trio of Fabinho, Jordan Henderson and Thiago Alcantara. That is a combination of players that most teams in the world would love to have.

However, the latter two are now into their thirties, and Klopp may be wary of relying on them too much moving forward, especially if Liverpool continue to make it to the final stages of every competition.
