Liverpool: Klopp could 'look to sign' £25m 'pressing machine' at Anfield

Liverpool may ‘look at’ RB Leipzig midfielder Konrad Laimer once more when the transfer window reopens, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The 25-year-old was linked with a switch away from the Red Bull Arena throughout the summer before staying put but could finally secure his exit over the coming months.

German news outlet Kicker (via the Liverpool ECHO) reported that Jurgen Klopp’s charges were weighing up a move for Laimer in the previous transfer window.

The Austria international has entered the final year of his contract with Leipzig and was also believed to be on the radar of Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.

However, Laimer’s £25 million price tag seemingly put his potential suitors off, and a formal offer failed to materialise from either Liverpool or Munich.

Klopp instead brought in Arthur Melo on a season-long loan deal from Juventus to solve his midfielder issues, although he has only featured in 13 minutes of action so far in the current campaign.

With Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner all set to become free agents in the summer of 2023, Liverpool could well revive their interest in Laimer.

Liverpool also reportedly have Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham on their radar, who supposedly has a valuation of around £103m.

Yet Jones has informed GiveMeSport that he doesn’t believes Arthur’s temporary switch to Anfield will have much bearing on their pursuit of Laimer as they are ‘different types of targets’.

He said: “I think they are different types of targets. Arthur was a late loan to fill a hole, whereas Laimer would be a permanent signing who comes into the long-term thinking of the club. He still might be one they look to again.”

Laimer has registered 11 goals and 18 assists in 167
