Liverpool injury blow confirmed ahead of Man United clash as Arne Slot gives Federico Chiesa update

Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has played down the likelihood of new recruit Federico Chiesa featuring in Sunday's Premier League clash against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The Italian finalised his move to Anfield on Thursday, signing a four-year deal. Liverpool reached an agreement with Juventus earlier this week to sign the winger in a deal that could eventually be worth £12.5million.

New signings have been few and far between at Anfield this summer, meaning Slot may be tempted to throw Chiesa in from the start this weekend. However, the winger is currently more likely to miss out than he is to be involved.

"We should take care of him in the beginning," said Slot, as quoted by the ECHO. "He hasn't played many game minutes yet.

"We have very good performance staff so we will build him up in the right way and hopefully we can see his quality in the near future. He is going to train with us today (Friday) but there is a bigger chance that he isn't involved than he is.

"But if injuries come up in the next two days then we might need him. I don't expect him to be in but I can't guarantee it."

Midfielder Curtis Jones is currently the only injury concern Liverpool are dealing with. He has not played so far this season, missing last weekend's clash with Brentford after making the bench against Ipswich Town on the opening weekend.

Slot said: "At the moment there are not any other injuries except for Curtis Jones and he will not train with us today. But the rest will train with us today."
