Liverpool FC get double injury boost ahead of Man City fixture as key duo return to training

Liverpool could welcome back long-term absentee Luis Diaz when they take on Manchester City this weekend.

Diaz has been missing for nearly six months but has been training with the Liverpool academy sides recently to build up his fitness. Now, the Colombian has been pictured in first-team training just in time for their Premier League trip to City. After that game, Liverpool take on Chelsea and Arsenal in a run that could make or break their outside chances of finishing in the top four.

Winger Diaz isn't necessarily expected to start on Saturday, the Liverpool Echo report, however he could be included in the matchday squad and potentially feature off the bench.

Also seen training on Thursday was striker Darwin Nunez, giving Jurgen Klopp's side a second boost after the Uruguayan missed the international break with an ankle issue. Reserve left-back Kostas Tsimikas, who had to be substituted in the first half of Greece's draw with Lithuania last week, was another player available for Klopp after training on Thursday.

Liverpool's positive injury outlook is at odds to City's squad, with Erling Haaland missing training on Thursday as he continues to recover from a groin injury that forced him out of international duty.

Haaland's father last week confirmed the striker has visited hospital for checks on the problem, describing his availability against Liverpool as 'touch and go'. There has been no sight of Haaland in training pictures or footage on Wednesday and Thursday.
