Liverpool fans send Philippe Coutinho Man City message following Aston Villa transfer

Liverpool fans were happy to see Philippe Coutinho finally end his Barcelona nightmare after completing a permanent transfer to Aston Villa this week.

The 29-year-old will move for around £17 million after signing a contract that will keep him at Villa Park until 2026, with a 50 percent sell-on clause included in the deal. He's scored four goals and provided three assists in 16 Premier League appearances since joining on loan in January.

When the Brazilian playmaker left Anfield for an initial £120 million plus add-ons in 2018, few would have expected him to end up in the West Midlands four years later. While it is a brilliant deal for Villa, it is viewed by some as emblematic of a career that never truly reached its full potential.

Some Liverpool fans reacted to the news on the forum Red And White Kop, with one commenter writing: "Congrats on the signing Phil, smash City on the final day lad." Another said: "Not the darling world beater Klopp moulded and his dreams were dashed but there is still a player there. Screamers against City please Phil."

Villa face league leaders Man City on the final day of the Premier League season. Coutinho could yet play a huge role in where the title ends up, with the Reds just three points behind in second place.

Meanwhile on Twitter, Liverpool supporters were also grateful for the transfer fee that funded the signings that helped make Champions League and Premier League glory a reality. Here is what some of them were tweeting:

Thanks Coutinho. From every Liverpool fan, for deciding to go to Barca and helping us in lending VVD and Alisson.

Celebrate by scoring 6 against City!

So happy he found himself again under Gerrard.. Aston Villa is one of the teams I’m looking to watch next
