Liverpool claim emerges on gem who'd 'shatter' wage structure

Transfer insider Dean Jones is “not sure why” Liverpool are being linked with Kylian Mbappe as he still considers Real Madrid to be the clear favourites to sign the French superstar.

Mbappe’s future looks set to be a hot topic this summer as he must decide whether to stay at PSG or move elsewhere.

Real tried unsuccessfully to sign Mbappe last summer as PSG stood firm and kept hold of the 23-year-old.

However, with his contract expiring in June, the World Cup winner could depart the Parc des Princes for free, with Real continuing to be linked with him.

Another club could make a move for Mbappe as well, though, as Liverpool have reportedly registered an interest in the forward. It is understood that Mbappe would be open to a move to Anfield.

Jones has doubts about Liverpool’s chances of landing Mbappe as he feels that the player wants to join Real, and has questioned whether the Reds would be able to match his wage demands.

He has also pointed out that the Spanish giants look set to offload some star names this summer, specifically to free up space in their squad to bring in Mbappe.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “Kylian Mbappe is being linked with Liverpool but I’m not sure why. He’s always had his heart set on Madrid and his wage demands would shatter Liverpool’s current structure. Madrid are very confident they have him. Bale, Isco and Marcelo are to leave and their wages will be reinvested in Mbappe.”

Stranger things have happened, but it seems that the odds are stacked against them.

After scoring a last-minute winner for PSG against Real on Tuesday night, Mbappe insisted that he has “not decided” where he will be playing his football next season.
