Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp snaps at Italian journalist over ’embarrassing’ question
Jurgen Klopp hit out at an Italian journalist for trying to ‘create headlines’ at his pre-match press conference before Liverpool’s Champions League clash with Napoli.
The Merseysiders are in Naples to begin their European campaign on Wednesday night, a place they have visited three times in the last decade and encountered fan trouble on each occasion.
As a result, Liverpool released a list of safety advice for travelling supporters to follow which included not leaving designated areas, not wandering around the city alone and not wearing Liverpool’s colours in the city.
One Italian journalist appeared to take umbrage with the picture Liverpool had painted of Naples and asked Klopp whether he agreed with the description.
But as the question was being translated, Klopp became visibly irritated and exasperated and hit out at the journalist, describing his question as ‘embarrassing’.
‘That’s an embarrassing question from you. You want to create headlines, I really don’t understand it,’ responded the German coach.
‘You are from Napoli? Are you from Napoli? Do you think it’s a dangerous city? I don’t know. I don’t live a normal life in Napoli.
‘I am protected here, I go to the hotel, and now you ask me what I think about Napoli.
‘You know exactly what people are talking about, if some supporters meet some supporters something can happen. That’s nothing to do with the city.
‘So I don’t know, but I’m not here to create headlines for you.
