Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp gets wish as Leicester City braced for Premier League decision

Leicester City will reportedly not play a match between Boxing Day and New Years' Eve this upcoming season with the Premier League set to scrap the fourth festive fixture of the period.

Brendan Rodgers' side made the trip to Manchester City on the day after Christmas Day before returning home to the King Power Stadium for a meeting with Liverpool 48 hours later last season. That won't be the case this year though as the latter fixture is said to be being moved elsewhere in the calendar due to the short turnaround for this year's World Cup. After pausing on November 13, the Premier League will return on December 26, only eight days after the final.

The scrapping of this round of matches is apparently to ease player burnout after the tournament. All will be revealed tomorrow morning when the top-flight fixtures are released at 9am.

These reports from Telegraph Sport claim that fixtures will only be scheduled on Boxing Day, New Year's Eve and January 2. The same is said to be being implemented in the Championship and below too, with Boxing Day, December 29 and New Year's Day their three matchdays. The third round of the FA Cup will then follow around the weekend of January 7.

Such alterations come in light of recent FIFPRO research, the representative organisation for professional footballers, that demanded reform, which is a point that Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola stressed at stages last season. For many, such as new England international James Justin, the season has only just finished following a host of Nations League fixtures.
