Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp confirms double injury boost ahead of Champions League final against Real Madrid

Jurgen Klopp has confirmed a double injury boost ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League final against Real Madrid, with midfielders Fabinho and Thiago both fit to play.

Fabinho has missed Liverpool’s last three games due to a thigh problem, while Thiago was a major doubt for the final in Paris after suffering an Achilles injury on the last day of the season.

But both players were named in Liverpool’s squad to fly to the French capital on Friday and Klopp confirmed when they landed that both players were in contention for the final.

‘The mood is good, very good,’ Klopp said at his pre-match press conference. ‘We’re all very excited to be here.

‘It looks good for both. Fabinho trained completely normal, Thiago trained yesterday and today so we go from there.’

Both Fabinho and Thiago have been crucial to Liverpool’s success this season, with Klopp’s side winning the FA Cup and EFL Cup and finishing one point behind Premier League champions Manchester City.

While their hopes of clinching an unprecedented quadruple were ended by Man City’s dramatic title triumph, Liverpool can still secure a third trophy of the season and a seventh European crown by beating Real Madrid.

But Madrid are the most successful team in the history of the Champions League with 13 titles and stunned Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Manchester City to reach this year’s final.

Asked who is the favourite for tomorrow’s match, Klopp said: ‘I don’t know – I don’t have an easy answer.

‘If you look at the history of the clubs and the way Real Madrid celebrate those comebacks then I would say it’s them because of the experience.
