Liverpool: 64-goal icon who 'Klopp loves' could make shock stay at Anfield

Liverpool striker Divock Origi could be persuaded to stay at Anfield if Jurgen Klopp makes it clear that he still figures in his plans, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The end of the season may only be a matter of weeks away, but there are still question marks over where Origi will be plying his trade next term.

There are doubts over whether Origi will still be on Merseyside in the not-too-distant future as his £82,000-per-week contract is due to expire in the summer.

That has put some of European football’s biggest clubs on red alert and, according to Italian media outlet Calciomercato, the 27-year-old is on the brink of securing a move to AC Milan.

The report suggests the 32-cap Belgium international, who has been able to sign a pre-contract agreement with overseas suitors since the turn of the year, could confirm that he will head to the San Siro as soon as this week.

Origi may have been restricted to just 563 minutes of action this season, but he made an impact by finding the back of the net in the 2-0 Merseyside derby win over Everton at the weekend.

His game-changing performance led to boss Klopp hailing Origi as a ‘legend’, ‘world-class striker’ and Liverpool’s ‘best finisher’.

Jones believes a number of clubs will be hoping to secure Origi’s services, even though AC Milan appear to be the frontrunners.

However, the transfer insider feels the 6’1 star, who has scored 64 goals over the course of his club career, could still opt to pen an extended contract in order to remain with Liverpool.
