Pictures shared on social media appear to show cars and homes on the Kirkholt estate partially under water.

The flooding is the result of a burst water main on Gerrard Street. Dozens of homes have also reportedly been left without water.

Three schools have been forced to shut as a result of the burst water main, according to Rochdale council. They are St Mary's CE Primary in Balderstone, Holy Family Roman Catholic School and Sandbrook Community Primary School.

Engineers from United Utilities are on scene attempting to repair the burst water main.
