Live updates in Lola James murder trial - two year old died after 'frenzied and extremely violent attack', court told

A two-year-old was murdered in a "frenzied and extremely violent" attack, a court has heard. A gravely injured Lola James was found at her home in Haverfordwest in July 2020 and rushed to Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital in Cardiff. She died four days later.

Lola’s mother, 29-year-old Sinead James of Neyland, is charged with causing or allowing the death of the toddler, and 30-year-old Kyle Bevan of Aberystwyth is charged with murder. Both defendants deny the charges. The trial at Swansea Crown Court before High Court judge Mr Justice Griffiths is expected to last four weeks.

On day two of the case, the prosecution opened its case against the defendants - and said that after Lola had sustained fatal injuries Bevan carried out internet searches for children and head injuries - with an ambulance being called around an hour later. Lola was found unconscious by paramedics with a bruised face and swollen face and head, jurors heard.

Jurors have been told that Bevan later tried to blame the family dog - saying the animal had pushed Lola down the stairs.
