LIVE updates as Tesco Express store in Ashton taped off by police following serious incident

A large police scene is in place in Ashton-under-Lyne this evening.

Witnesses report seeing at least three ambulances and a number of police cars outside the Tesco Express on Oldham Road at around 7pm on Wednesday (January 1). The exact nature of the incident is not yet clear.

Pictures show a heavy emergency service presence with the Tesco Express taped off.

Greater Manchester Police has been contacted for more information.
