Live updates as 'strong police presence' seen outside secondary school and leisure centre in Gorseinon

A large number of police have reportedly been called to an area outside a Swansea secondary school this morning. Residents and the headteacher of the school in Gorseinon have said there was a heavy police presence with around four or five police cars and an ambulance outside Penyrheol Leisure Centre and Penyrheol Comprehensive School after an incident.

In an email to parents of pupils at the school, headteacher at Penyrheol Comprehensive School, Damian Benney, said there was a "serious assault on a member of the public" at around 7.15am on Tuesday morning outside the neighbouring leisure centre. "As a consequence, there is currently a strong police presence at the front of the leisure centre. The assault has nothing to do with any member of our school community and is totally unrelated to any previous events in the community," he wrote. "The police have reassured us that our pupils are perfectly safe and that being in school is the best place for them."
