Live updates as 'serious accident' leads to air ambulance landing in town

The air ambulance has landed and there is a heavy emergency services presence in Treorchy after an accident.

The incident has happened near the Pencelli Hotel in Treorchy. The Tour of Britain cycle race is scheduled to be passing very close to where the incident is understood to have happened.

Pictures from the scene show a fire engine blocking the road between Treorchy and Cwmparc. The Tour of Britain route sees riders come down from the Bwlch mountain and pass through Cwmparc and Treorchy. A spokeswoman for the tour said they are "aware" of the incident. The tour was scheduled to pass through Treorchy at 1.30pm. A witness says Station Road is currently closed.

The Welsh Ambulance Service says it has "multiple resources" at the scene of the incident, which it said was at Pencai Terrace. The Ystradfechan Bowls Club, which is near the scene of the incident, posted a picture on Facebook of an ambulance and two fire engines and told people booked in for Sunday lunch to call the club as soon as possible.
