Live updates as roads blocked and trains cancelled as Wales hit by flooding

Heavy rain is causing major disruption in Wales with major roads flooded and impassable and train services cancelled. There have been heavy downpours in Wales overnight and throughout Wednesday as the country is covered by a yellow weather warning.

The warning has been in place since 6pm on Tuesday and covers nearly all of the country. Not only does it bring with it heavy rain and strong winds, it is in place for some 18 hours with up to 80mm of rainfall hitting the country within hours in parts.

The warning comes to an end at 12pm however weather maps show that heavy rain will continue to blight the country throughout the week. It reads: "Areas of heavy rain are expected to develop and push north across the warning area. Rain will develop in southwest England late afternoon, before becoming heavier and expanding north on Tuesday evening and overnight into Wednesday.

"Many places will see around 10-20 mm of rain, but there is a chance some locations may see considerably more than this over a six hour period, most likely parts of southwest England and south Wales. A few places may see 50-80 mm of rain fall in six hours. Isolated thunderstorms are also possible in the south of the warning area, with lightning an additional hazard." Overnight there were three flood alerts in place across Wales at Anglesey and Llanelli. There is major disruption to rail services between Shrewsbury and Bidston, meaning multiple services through Wrexham and Flintshire are cancelled. Transport for Wales warned disruption was expected for the rest of the day.
