Live updates as road closed after 'serious' road traffic collision in Abercynon

Police are at the the scene of a collision on New Road, Abercynon. South Wales Police confirm that the road is closed in both direction between New Road (Penrhiwceiber bridge) and New Road (Abercynon turn off near Pontycnon Ind Est). The road is also closed at Abercynon roundabout preventing entry to New Road.

A statement from South Wales Police Control Room said: "We are at the scene of a collision on New Road (A4059), Abercynon. The road is closed in both direction between New Road (Penrhiwceiber bridge) and New Road (Abercynon turn off near Pontycnon Ind Est). The road is also closed at Abercynon roundabout preventing entry to New Road."

A statement from Rhondda Cynon Taf Council said: "Please note, the police are responding to a serious road traffic collision on the A4059 near Letty Turner Bends in #Abercynon, and this section of the road has been closed to all traffic.

There will be no access onto the A4059 from the A470 for northbound traffic. Southbound traffic should avoid the A4059 south of Cwmbach roundabout and seek an alternative route where possible. Thanks."
