Live updates as polls open in Wales to vote in general election 2024

The general election is taking place today, Thursday, July 4 and polls are open from 7am until 10pm. The first results are expected from midnight onwards.

We'll have reporters at counts across Wales and will be bringing you the results as they happen as well as analysis about what the result means for Wales.

This is the first general election where you need to take ID to the polling station to be able to cast your vote, you can see the full details of that here. You do not need to take your polling card with you to vote, but must be registered.

Results will be coming from 650 constituencies across the country. For this election there has been a major change in Wales with the electoral map being redrawn and the number of constituencies changing from 40 to 32. For the latest politics news in Wales sign up to our newsletter here.

The first results in Wales are not expecting before 2am, and you can see a list of all the expected times here. The first results are expected before 2am, with the majority coming between 2am and 4am.
