Live updates as person hit by train at Cardiff Central

Some lines from Cardiff Central Station are blocked with services not running after a person was hit by a train. People at the station told WalesOnline there was an "incident" on one of the platforms and that people had been told to exit the station. British Transport Police have confirmed that the incident took place within the station itself and that a casualty has been taken to hospital.

An officer at British Transport Police told WalesOnline: "Officers were called to Platform 2 Cardiff Central Railway Station at 1.36pm on September 11 following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Paramedics also attended and a person has been taken to hospital with injuries which are believed to be life-threatening. Officers are currently working to establish the full circumstances and the persons next of kin. The incident is not being treated as suspicious”

In a statement Transport for Wales said: "Due to a person being hit by a train at Cardiff Central some lines are blocked. Train services running through this station may be cancelled or delayed." British Transport Police have been contacted for comment.

National Rail Enquiries said: "A problem under investigation at Cardiff Central means that some lines are blocked. As a result, trains through this station may be cancelled, revised or delayed by up to 45 minutes. Disruption is expected until 3pm."
