Live updates as mother who admits killing her toddler son is sentenced

A mother who admitted killing her two-year-old son is due to sentenced today. Natalie Steele, 32, pleaded guilty earlier this year to the manslaughter of her son Reid by reason of diminished responsibility.

Reid died at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff on August 12 last year after being found critically injured at a house in Bridgend. An inquest opening later heard the toddler was "found submersed in bath water" by his grandmother.

Police were called to an address in Broadlands at around 7.30pm on August 11 and Steele was arrested and later charged with murder, which she denied, but the Crown accepted her guilty plea to manslaughter. Prosecutor Michael Jones QC said the reports of two psychiatrists found Steele, of Broadlands, Bridgend, was suffering from "psychosis and psychotic depression" but found her fit to plead and stand trial. The defendant is due to appear at Cardiff Crown Court today for her sentencing hearing.

"His favourite things were Bob the Builder, Winnie the Pooh and the Heffalump, the beach, shells and pebbles, diggers, flowers, and nature. Reid lit up everyone’s lives. He adored the songs You Are My Sunshine, This Little Light of Mine, and Bob the Builder.
