Live updates as Met Office issues huge 16-hour weather warning across whole of Wales
The whole of Wales is covered by a Met Office warning for rain on Monday, with concerns it could be thundery in places. As much as 40mm could fall within a three-hour period.
The Met Office warning starts at 8am and says there could be some localised flooding and transport disruption. Not what you want for St Swithin's Day, which falls on July 15. The legend states that whatever the weather is in the UK on that day, it will stay the same for the next 40 days. And while it may sound like nothing but a myth, there is actually some science behind it. Read more about that here.
The Met Office forecast for Wales says that Monday will start bright in north Wales, but the heavy rain will edge northwards through the day, with the possibility of flooding in places. It adds there is a "risk of thundery downpours in places, especially in the north by early evening. A wet evening for many with some heavy rain, and perhaps thunderstorms in places."
The warning, which ends at midnight, says: "Outbreaks of rain, some heavy and thundery, will spread steadily north across the area during Monday. Some torrential downpours are likely in places with 15 to 20 mm falling in less than an hour and as much as 30 to 40mm in three hours."
It adds: "This is likely to lead to localised flooding, slower travel times and a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded. Some of the heavy rain may be accompanied by lightning bringing a further hazard. The heavy rain will slowly ease after dark."
