LIVE updates as Manchester Airport visitor centre evacuated as firefighters race to scene
Manchester Airport’s visitor centre has been evacuated amid unconfirmed reports of a gas leak.
Video footage from the scene shows staff and members of the public leaving buildings at the airport’s Runway Visitor Park.
Alarms can be heard as large numbers of people exit. Fire service vehicles are at the scene.
One member of the public told the Manchester Evening News people have been told the evacuation is due to a potential gas leak. That is yet to be confirmed.
The witness said: “I'm currently at Manchester Airport Visitor Centre where three fire engines are in attendance, along with two fire and rescue vehicles, as well as airport security.
“The whole buildings around the Visitor Centre have been evacuated as far as we know, or we've been made aware of everyone to move away into the car park due to a gas leak.”
The Manchester Evening News has contacted Manchester Airport and Greater Manchester Fire Service for comment.
We will bring live updates below.
