Live updates as M4 shut near Swansea after serious crash

Police have closed the M4 heading west at junction 46 following what the force is calling a serious collision. South Wales Fire and Rescue Service and officers from South Wales Police attended the incident at around 7.30pm on Friday evening.

The road remains closed westbound from junction 46 to junction 47, Swansea. The eastbound carriageway remains open.

The incident is causing congestion on the A48 westbound at Llangyfelach with motorists being diverted. Congestion continues until Penllergaer interchange and delays are at least 10 minutes.

In a statement South Wales Police said: "We are at the scene of a serious collision on the M4. The road is currently closed westbound between junction 46 on slip and junction 47 at Llangyfelach. It is expected to remain closed for some time.

"Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes where possible. Delays are expected in the area. Your patience is appreciated."

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they were also at the scene but have since left. Eyewitnesses reported multiple police vehicles at the scene and one fire engine.
