Live updates as former Plaid Cymru Senedd member Rhys ab Owen to face Senedd suspension vote
Former Plaid Cymru Senedd Member Rhys ab Owen is set to face a vote of fellow Senedd members tonight over a suggested suspension of 42 days, the longest sanction a Senedd politician has ever faced.
The South Wales Central MS was found to have drunkenly harassed a woman and grabbed her thigh in the back of a taxi.
Mr ab Owen, who was elected in 2021 to represent South Wales Central, was suspended by Plaid Cymru over allegations he breached the Senedd code of conduct while an investigation was carried out. A report by the Senedd's standards committee, which included 67 pages, was released on Wednesday, March 6.
Among the committee's 23 findings of fact was that the politician had shown "no remorse" for the events that took place in June 2021. A report also said that the politician had denied improper conduct. You can read more about the report and its findings here.
On Wednesday, Mr ab Owen is set to address the Welsh Parliament ahead of their vote for the proposed sanction on the politicians. The committee's report called on the Senedd to implement a 42-day ban.
