Live updates as farmers roll tractors slowly through the streets of Carmarthen and Aberystwyth in protest
Convoys of tractors are causing disruption in Carmarthen and Aberystwyth on Thursday lunchtime. Dyed Powys Police are warning of potential disruption on both town centres as farmers continue their protest against plans for new Welsh Government reforms.
Video clips show the tractors being driven slowly down Carmarthen high street bearing placards including "Enough is Enough" and "No Farmers, No Food, No Future".
Unions have warned that the Sustainable Farming Scheme (SFS) set to be introduced next year is "unworkable". To be eligible for the subsidy payments, farmers must ensure that 10% of their land is planted with trees and 10% is treated as wildlife habitat. On Wednesday,farmers staged a protest to coincide with Mark Drakeford's visit to a Welsh college. Hundreds gathered in Rhyl to protest against the Welsh Government's post-Brexit farm subsidy scheme.
Dyfed Powys Police said in a statement on Thursday (February 22): "The traffic network in and out of the towns may also be affected.
"If you are planning on travelling in those areas today, please consider changing your route or journey time to avoid delays."
