Live updates as Easter getaway brings heavy traffic on M4 and across Wales

There is heavy traffic across the road and rail network in Wales on Good Friday as people head on holiday for the long weekend. A police incident on the M4 caused long delays around Newport on Friday morning and there was disruption in Cardiff, Carmarthenshire, Newport, and further west.

Traffic remains heavy along the M4 corridor with delays of around 30 minutes on the M4 westbound at the Brynglas Tunnels as of 4pm on Friday. The A48 is seeing delays of around 50 minutes near Carmarthen at the A40 Pensarn roundabout and there are also long delays on the A548 towards Flintshire.

Rail passengers have also been warned that some train lines in south Wales are closed over the Easter weekend. The City line between Cardiff Central and Radyr will be closed all day on Saturday and there is no rail replacement bus service. However tickets will be accepted on Cardiff Bus, according to Transport for Wales.

The Cardiff Central to Pontypridd line will also be closed for both Saturday and Sunday as work is done on the line. Tickets will be accepted on Cardiff Bus and Stagecoach T4/T4C services. You can see the full list of services affected here.

Images on social media showed thousands queueing at St Pancras Station in London amid high volumes of travellers and service disruption, including the closure of Euston Station from April 7 to 10 for track improvements and service reductions on a number of Tube lines. For those heading further afield there were severe delays at Dover with passengers being warned they could face two-hour delays. Contingency plans have been put in place after delays of up to 18 hours last weekend.
