Live updates as court hears details of violent graveside brawl involving families at cemetery

Nine people are due to be sentenced today for taking part in a shocking violent disturbance at a Swansea cemetery.

Armed police and a force helicopter were scrambled to Morriston Cemetery on the afternoon of August 5 last year following reports of a mass graveside fight, weapons being brandished, and vehicles being driven dangerously. Two people were subsequently taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Following a major police investigation 13 men and children were charged with a range of offences in connection with the incident including inflicting grievous bodily harm, violent disorder, and the possession of offensive weapons ranging from a baseball bat to a machete.

Nine men will appear in the dock of Swansea Crown Court today to be sentenced for their parts in the disorder. They are:

John Murphy Jnr, aged 18, of Llanelli.

Patrick Joseph Murphy, aged 40, of Pen-y-Bryn caravan site, Bynea, Llanelli.

Andrew Thomas, aged 40, of Maes-y-Bont, Llanelli.

Paddy Murphy, aged 18, of Llanelli.

Martin John O'Brien, aged 57, of Sandy Road, Llanelli.

John Joe O'Brien, aged 53, of Sandy Bridge, Llanelli.

Jeffrey Tawse, aged 23, of Letterston Road, Rumney, Cardiff.

James Coffey, aged 45, of Wentloog Road, Rumney, Cardiff.

John Coffey Jnr, aged 24, of Wentloog Road, Rumney, Cardiff.

Four youths who cannot be named because of their ages are to be sentenced separately for their involvement.
