LIVE: Trial of Man City's Benjamin Mendy continues after court hears Blues 'allowed him to keep playing despite rape allegation'

The trial of Man City's Benjamin Mendy and his co-defendant Louis Saha Matturie continues today.

On Tuesday (August 23), an alleged victim told jurors The Citizens allowed alleged 'predator' Mr Mendy, 28, to continue playing football and partying despite the defender having already 'endangered' women's lives.

Mr Mendy has been charged with eight counts of rape against five women; one count of attempted rape; and one count of sexual assault.

The offences are alleged to have taken place on five different occasions at his home between October 2018 and August last year, relating to seven women in total. Mr Mendy denies all the charges.

Mr Mendy joined Manchester City in 2017 and played more than a full season with the club before the first offence of attempted rape is alleged to have taken place in October 2018.

Mr Mendy's co-defendant Louis Saha Matturie, of Eccles, Salford, has also pleaded not guilty to eight counts of rape and four counts of sexual assault, relating to eight women.

Junior prosecutor Sarah Holt tells the court Woman Three contacted police on January 4, 2021, to reported having been sexually assaulted by Benjamin Mendy.

Officers from Cheshire Police attended Mr Mendy’s home the following day and arrested him on suspicion of sexual assault, she says.

Mr Mendy was cautioned and had his iPhone seized, jurors are told. He was then taken to Middlewich Police Station, where he was interviewed by police and made no comment, says Ms Holt.

Good morning.
