LIVE: Travel chaos as Metrolink line suspended and four city centre stops closed - updates

Commuters are facing misery after a power issue brought a Metrolink line to a standstill.

All services on the Ashton line are suspended this morning (October 22).

Four Manchester city centre Metrolink stops are also closed due to the same issue.

It follows an overhead line issue on Portland Street, in the city centre.

Engineers are now on the scene to fix the issue, TfGM says.

Danny Vaughan, chief network officer at TfGM, said:

"We’re sorry that some people's travel may be impacted this morning by damage to an overhead power line.

"We have engineers there now working to fix it and I'd encourage passengers to allow some extra time for their journey and check our website and social media for the latest information and advice.

"We have additional staff out on the network and will do everything we can to get this resolved as quickly as possible."

An image appears to show that the pantograph which connects trams to the overhead power line has detached from a vehicle on Portland Street.

The Bee Network says Metrolink tickets are being accepted on the 7, 53, 76, 76A, 171, 172, 216, 219, 220, 221, 230
