LIVE: Trains cancelled, delayed and diverted in Greater Manchester with engineers on scene - latest updates

Commuters are facing a morning of misery in part of Greater Manchester as engineers try to fix a problem on the region's railways.

A signalling issue is causing major disruption in Bolton this morning (November 12).

Services which run between Manchester and Preston are being hit by cancellations, delays and diversions as a result.

No TransPennine Express services are calling at Bolton station while the issue is ongoing, with passengers advised to travel on Northern services instead.

Rail replacement buses are expected to be used between Wigan Wallgate, Westhoughton and Bolton, for Northern services in the area.

A National Rail spokesperson said: "A fault with the signalling system between Bolton and Preston means fewer trains are able to run on all lines.

"As a result, trains running between these stations may be cancelled, delayed or diverted. This is expected until 09:30."

Northern services between Salford Crescent and Preston, and Salford Crescent and Wigan Wallgate, are facing delays of up to 30 minutes and some cancellations according to Inrix.
