LIVE Traffic updates as tanker overturns and forces A34 to close
Emergency services have been forced to shut a key section of the A34 in Cheshire after a tanker overturned. A collision took place on the A34 leaving one vehicle on its side.
As a result, the A34 has been closed to traffic in both directions from the A538 to Dean Row Road in Wilmslow. Firefighters have urged motorists to stay away from the area.
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service sent engines from Wilmslow and Macclesfield to the scene at around 12.20pm. A spokesperson told CheshireLive: "Fire crews are at the scene of a road traffic collision involving a tanker which has overturned on its side on the A34. Police have closed the road in both directions between the A538 and Dean Row Road.
"Diversions are in place, but motorists are being advised to avoid the area while the incident is being dealt with."
Police based in Wilmslow issued an alert on social media and wrote: "Emergency Services are currently dealing with an incident involving an overturned tanker on the A34 in Wilmslow.
"The road is currently closed in both directions between the A538 and Dean Row Road. Diversions are in place, but motorists are avoid the area."

Cheshire Police have just released a statement in which they have warned of 'major delays' while the emergency services deal with the incident.
It says: "At 12.15pm on Wednesday 20 November police were called to reports of a collision on the A34 in Wilmslow. Officers attended the scene and found a tanker had overturned near on Birrell Way and was leaking onto the carriageway.
"There are no reports of any serious injuries, and the contents of the tanker are not believed to be hazardous to the public. As a result of the collision the A34 is currently closed in both directions
