LIVE: Sky News, Ryanair, trains, banks and supermarkets hit by global IT outage amid Microsoft Windows issues

A Microsoft Windows issue has left banks, airlines, telecommunications firms, TV and radio broadcasters and supermarkets experiencing outages following the appearance of blue screen of death error screens worldwide.

The message read: "We apologise for the interruption to this broadcast. We hope to restore the transmission of Sky News shortly."

Earlier, Melbourne airport alerted customers that it was 'experiencing a global technology issue which is impacting check-in procedures for some airlines', advising passengers to 'allow a little extra time to check-in'.
