LIVE: Roads taped off and emergency crews at scene of double-decker bus crash with driver 'seriously injured' - latest updates

Emergency services are at the scene of a crash involving a double-decker bus this evening. Police, fire crews and paramedics are at the scene of the incident near to the Parsonage Retail Park.

A yellow Bee Network bus appears to have smashed into a tree at the Atherleigh Way junction. Emergency crews were called to the incident at 4pm.

Multiple road closures remain in place currently. Police are also blocking nearby Parsonage Way. The nature of any injuries involved has not yet been confirmed.

Greater Manchester Police, the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service and Transport for Greater Manchester have been contacted for a statement.

The driver of the bus is thought to have suffered a medical episode behind the wheel before the crash today.

Emergency services were called to the collision shortly after 4pm.

It is understood that the driver, in his 50s, suffered the medical episode and that no other vehicles were involved.

No passengers are reported to have been injured.

Roads remain taped off this evening with worsening traffic in the area.

The bus appears to have crashed into a large tree.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "A bus has collided with a tree. The driver of the bus is a male believed to be in his 50s.

"He has been taken to hospital with serious injuries. No other injuries have been reported. Road closures are in place around the Atherleigh Way area."

The driver of the bus has been left 'seriously injured' in the collision, it is understood.
