LIVE: Rail chaos with one line shut and emergency measures imposed on major route - updates
Commuters are facing disruption this morning with one line blocked and services delayed on another major route.
Emergency services are currently dealing with an incident between Romiley in Stockport and Guide Bridge station in Tameside.
The Manchester Evening News has approached British Transport Police (BTP) for further information.
The line, which runs from Rose Hill Marple and Guide Bridge to Manchester Piccadilly, is currently shut in both directions.
Travellers are being warned of cancellations and disruption, with rail replacement buses now being provided.
Meanwhile, a 'section of defective track' between Stockport and Manchester is leading to major delays with some services suspended as 'emergency restrictions' are imposed.
Travel service Inrix says: "Service suspended on Transport for Wales between Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport, and between Manchester Piccadilly and Crewe due to faulty rail."
Others services are also being delayed by up to 15 minutes due to a speed restriction.
National Rail says: "A section of defective track has been reported between Stockport and Manchester Piccadilly. To allow trains to travel over the affected area, an emergency speed restriction has been imposed.
"As a result of this, trains may be cancelled or delayed by up to 15 minutes. This is expected until the end of the day."
