LIVE: Queues building on M62 as lane closed following reports of accident

There is queueing traffic of five miles on the M62 Eastbound, near Salford, this morning (May 25) following reports of an accident. One lane is currently closed at junction 12 for Eccles Interchange. The closed lane is used to head straight onto the M602 towards Manchester and has led to traffic being held.

Traffic monitoring platform INRIX is reporting long delays in the area with traffic queuing for five miles. Travel time is reported to be around 30 minutes.

The nature of the accident is not yet known. Greater Manchester Police and North West Ambulance Service have been approached for more information.

National Highways are reporting that the long delays have now cleared and traffic should be returning to normal.

The lane has now reopened, but there are still long delays in the area. Traffic time is currently at around 25 minutes.

National Highways state that one of four lanes remains closed. Normal traffic conditions are expected between 09:30 and 09:45.

There is currently congestion to junction 11 for Birchwood, with long delays reported in the area.
