LIVE: 'Possible explosive device' found as people evacuated from homes in Salford

People have been evacuated from their homes following the discovery of a 'possible explosive device' at a property in Salford, police said. The potential device was found at a home on Neville Drive in Irlam during a raid in relation to an assault on Monday (June 13), GMP added.

Police and the bomb disposal unit are at the scene. A cordon has been erected, with residents evacuated as a 'safety precaution.'

A GMP spokesperson said: "Officers attended an address on Neville Drive, Irlam this morning (13 June 2022), to execute a warrant in relation to an assault.

"While in attendance at the address officers have discovered a possible explosive device. The EOD are currently on the way to assess the device.

"As a safety precaution a 100m cordon has been put in place around the property and the neighbouring properties evacuated”.
