LIVE: Murder investigation launched following man's death in Heywood

A murder investigation is underway following the death of a man in Heywood.

Two arrests have been made, Greater Manchester Police said.

A 19-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman are being quizzed by detectives on suspicion of murder. It comes following the death of a man found with 'serious' injuries in the early hours in the Rochdale town.

He was found badly hurt on Atholl Drive and sadly died a short time later. Before that, police said, another man had 'asked for help from the occupants of a property a short distance away'.

Residents reported seeing a large number of police vehicles on Atholl Drive on Sautday morning, with the road reportedly taped off.

Numerous police vehicles, paramedics, forensics and plain clothed detectives have all been spotted at the scene carrying out enquiries on the residential street.

The nature of the incident has not yet been confirmed. Greater Manchester Police have been approached for more information.

One local resident described seeing Crime Scene Investigators and police at the scene, with forensic teams spotted putting markers on the floor.

Another said they'd seen police in the area since 6am this morning.
