LIVE: Major road shut with air ambulance called after serious crash - latest

Emergency services have been scrambled to a major Altrincham road following reports of a 'serious' road traffic collision.

Shaftesbury Avenue in Timperley has been closed off this afternoon following the incident, as air ambulance and police services attend to the scene.

The Manchester Evening News understands that several vehicles have been involved in a collision close to the Thorley Lane lights on Shaftesbury Avenue. Drivers are being encouraged to avoid the area.

The exact nature of the incident is not yet confirmed. Emergency services including Greater Manchester Police and North West Ambulance Service have been contacted for more information.

MancTraffic have tweeted: "A560 Shaftesbury Ave Timperley CLOSED from Thorley Lane to Aimson Rd East. Queues on approach and as traffic diverts through Timperley Village on Stockport Rd or on roads through Broomwood estate."
