LIVE: M60 motorway closed as car flips onto its roof

A large section of the M60 is closed this morning after a car crashed into a barrier and flipped onto its roof. A seven mile stretch of the anti-clockwise carriageway between Stockport and Denton is shut following the crash at 5.45am.

In a statement National Highway said: "A car struck the nearside barrier, overturned and came to rest on its roof. Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue and North West Ambulance Services attended.

"North West Motorway Police remain on scene and will be carrying out collision investigation work. Once complete, recovery and collision clear-up work can begin.

We've had a statement from the fire service now. A spokesperson said a man was rescued from the overturned car and taken to hospital following the crash.

They said:

At around 5.45am on Saturday, December 30, fire crews were called to reports of a road traffic collision on the M60 near Stockport, between junctions 25 and 24 anticlockwise.

Three fire engines from Whitehill, Stockport and Ashton fire stations, as well as the technical response unit from Ashton, quickly attended the incident. The collision involved one car which was on its roof upon crews’ arrival.

Firefighters extricated a man from the car, who was then taken to hospital by North West Ambulance Service. GMFRS crews were in attendance for about 40 minutes.

If you're heading #M60 anti-clockwise this morning, please be aware of the ongoing closure between J27
