Live M4 travel updates as heavy traffic causes widespread delays across Wales

There are widespread delays across several major Welsh roads including the M4 as people return home from the half-term break and the bank holiday weekend. Cardiff is also expected to be very busy later as thousands of football fans head to the city Wales' crunch match against Ukraine. You can follow all the build-up here.

Traffic Wales is warning of delays along several stretches of the M4, including through Newport, Swansea and Neath Port Talbot. Queues are around five miles long on the A40 eastbound between St Clears and Carmarthen.

There are also delays on the M4 eastbound from junction 44 Lon Las to junction 38 Margam, and on the Newport section heading west., and on the A55 in north Wales. Dyed Powys Police has said there are currently delays on the A477 in Pembrokeshire. It is because a vehicle has broken down between Red Roses and Kilgetty.

A statement said: "Please be patient and take an alternative route if possible, or plan extra time into your journey." Earlier on Sunday, South Wales Police warned that Cardiff will be "extremely busy".

RAC traffic spokesman Rod Dennis said: “The fact the bank holidays coincide with the end of half-term in many places has the potential to put some extra pressure on the road network, so planning a journey carefully is important to beat the worst of any queues."
