LIVE: Huge six-mile queues and 90-minute delays on stretch of M62 after crash - latest updates

Long delays are building on a stretch of the M62 this morning after a crash.

Three lanes have been shut off on the eastbound carriageway between junction eight for Burtonwood and junction nine for Warrington. Traffic is currently queuing for around five miles up to the incident, according to Highways North West.

There are currently delays of around 45 minutes. Lanes one, two and three are closed.

A tweet posted by National Highways said: "3 lanes (of 4) are closed on the #M62 eastbound between J8 #Burtonwood and J9 #Warrington due to a collision There is approx. 5 miles of congestion approach to the closures which is adding about 45 minutes to normal journey times."

A statement posted on the National Highways website said:

"There are long delays on the M62 eastbound between Junction 8 (Burtonwood) and Junction 9 (Warrington) due to a collision.

"3 of 4 lanes are closed. There is 6 miles of congestion.

"Over 90 minute delays If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time.

"Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey. Further information is available from National Highways by visiting our www.trafficengland.com website and travel apps, or via our regional twitter feed.

"Our 24/7 contact centre team is also available to provide up to the minute information on 0300 123 5000."

According to traffic alert service Inrix, congestion is back to junction seven for Rainhill on the eastbound side.
