LIVE: Huge delays on M62 after multi-vehicle crash and oil spillage - latest updates

Emergency services are responding to a multi-vehicle crash on the M62 near Rochdale and Oldham this afternoon.

Three lanes have been shut on the eastbound carriageway between junction 21 for Milnrow and junction 22 for Saddleworth following the collision, which occurred at around 11.08am this morning. Highways North West reports that there is currently around ten miles of congestion following the incident.

There are currently delays of around two hours. Lanes two, three and four are closed.

A tweet posted by National Highways said: "3 lanes are closed on the #M62 eastbound between J21 #Milnrow and J22 #Saddleworth due to a collision.

“There is currently around 3 miles of congestion which is adding about half an hour onto normal journey times.”

It is the second incident to occur on the eastbound motorway this morning, following an earlier crash between junction eight and Burtonwood and junction nine for Warrington. That incident cleared just after 9am.

All lanes have now reopened, drivers are being warned there are still two hours of delays.

In a statement, a National Highways spokesperson said emergency services are responding to a multi-vehicle collision involving four cars.

"The accident occurred at 11:08 on the M62 eastbound between J21-22. This was a multi vehicle collision with 4 cars involved.

"Lanes 2,3,4 are closed on the M62 eastbound between J21-22. Emergency services are at the scene. National Highways service providers are en-route to assess an oil spillage that has occurred as a result of the accident."
