LIVE: Cordon in place in Manchester city centre as man in his 50s pronounced dead at scene

A police cordon is in place in Manchester city centre this morning after a man was found dead.

Police were first called to the scene just off First Street at around 6am following 'reports of concern for the welfare of a man'. Tragically, the man - aged in his 50s - was pronounced dead on the scene.

Officers remain on the scene this morning, with an investigation underway. In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said: "At around 6.10am this morning (Monday 29 April 2024), we were called to reports of a concern for welfare of a man on Jack Rosenthal Street in the city centre.

"Despite the best efforts of the North West Ambulance Service, sadly, a man in his 50s was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigations are ongoing."

An area is taped off on Jack Rosenthal Street, near to a number of bars and restaurants. Eyewitnesses said a number of police vehicles are stationed in the area.
