LIVE: Constance Marten and Mark Gordon arrested but baby is missing as police launch urgent search - latest updates

An urgent search is underway to find Constance Marten and Mark Gordon's baby following their arrest.

The pair went missing after their car was found burning on the M61 in Bolton on January 5. Marten, who is from a wealthy aristocratic family, and Gordon, a convicted sex offender, have been travelling around the UK by taxi ever since.

Metropolitan Police confirmed this morning that the pair had been arrested by officers from Sussex Police in Stanmer Villas, Brighton on Monday night after a member of the public reported seeing them shortly before 9.30pm. Their baby has not yet been found.

An urgent search is ongoing to find the infant, who has not been seen by a doctor since birth in early January. Authorities believe the couple had previously been sleeping rough in a blue tent.

Miss Marten, who is from a wealthy aristocratic family, was a promising drama student when she first met Mr Gordon in 2016.

Since then the couple have led an isolated life, and in September, when Miss Marten was well into her pregnancy, began moving around rental flats.

Gordon served 20 years in prison in the US for rape and battery committed when he was 14.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said in a statement:

"Shortly before 21:30hrs on Monday, 27 February, a member of the public reported a sighting of Constance Marten and Mark Gordon in Stanmer Villas, Brighton.

"Officers from Sussex Police attended the location and the pair were arrested. They remain in custody.
