LIVE: 'Chaos' on M56 as Eurovision, roadworks and strikes cause motorway misery

The M56 is 'chaos' this afternoon - with Eurovision, roadworks and strikes leading to motorway misery.

There were reports delays of around 40 minutes between junctions 12 and 14.

Roadworks between junctions 11 and 12, for the demolition of the A533 Expressway Bridge, has seen hundreds of drivers affected.

It comes amid rail strikes, which has already affected scores of Eurovision fans heading into Liverpool.

In a tweet, National Highways said: "There are currently delays of approx 40 mins on the #M56 eastbound between J12 to J14 due to planned works taking place between J11 and J12 for the demolition of the #A533 Expressway Bridge."

And one person tweeted: "The M56 is shut so #frodsham and #runcorn are basically a car park."
