Live Cardiff 10K and Tour of Britain updates as major events take place amid road closures and rail changes

Sunday is gearing up to be one of the busiest days of the year in Cardiff as a number of major events take place in the Welsh capital on the same day.

Widespread traffic and travel disruption is expected throughout the day with road closures in place and planned engineering works affecting certain train services. The annual Cardiff 10k gets under way on Sunday morning while the city will also host the last leg of the Tour of Britain cycling event in which Welsh legend and Tour De France winner Geraint Thomas will be competing for the last time in a glittering career.

To celebrate his final race Thomas is hosting a special farewell event at Cardiff Castle after his race is run. That is expected to draw large crowds to an area already busy with spectators. For the latest Cardiff news sign up to our newsletter here.

A number of road closures will be in place with some routes closed for most of the day and others subject to rolling closures as events progress throughout Sunday.

As for the trains services in and out of Cardiff are expected to be very busy and Transport for Wales will be adding more capacity and additional services where possible. However engineering work means there will be no train services in or out of Cardiff on a number of routes on Sunday.

Buses will replace trains between Cardiff Central and Caerphilly/Ystrad Mynach, Bargoed, and Rhymney. Meanwhile buses will replace trains between Cardiff Central and Penarth, Cardiff Central and Barry Island, and Cardiff Central and Bridgend via Barry. Additionally no trains will run between Radyr and Cardiff Central via Fairwater.
