LIVE: Bomb disposal units called to residential street after guns and 'grenade' found in house

Bomb disposal units have been called out to a residential street in Bolton today, after guns and a suspected grenade were uncovered inside a house.

A property on Milton Crescent, in Farnworth, was taped off earlier after specialists from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit, crews from the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, police and paramedics were called out earlier today.

Emergency services have remained at the scene since around 8.30am this morning. It is understood only the house that was searched by officers was evacuated and taped off, with other residents largely unaffected.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said:

Just before 2pm on Tuesday 20 February, three fire engines from Bolton Central and Atherton stations were called to assist with a police incident on Milton Crescent, Farnworth. Fire crews were in attendance for about two and half hours.

This morning (Tuesday 20 February 2024), officers executed a Section 46 firearms warrant at a property on Milton Crescent in Farnworth, Bolton. Police recovered a number of offensive weapons, ammunition, and a suspected grenade.

A 23-year-old man has been arrested for possession of firearms and possession of Class B drugs. He remains in custody for further questioning. A scene remains in place and colleagues from NWAS, GMFRS and EOD are currently in attendance.
